Ministries
Meals
Our congregation meets on the first Wed. , each month, at 6:00 pm for a pot-luck dinner. All are invited to come and enjoy Christian fellowship and lots of good food. Our men meet every first Sun. of each month at 8:15 am for the Men's Prayer Breakfast. This is for all male members, young men, guests and visitors. One of our elders usually addresses the group.
SWAT
This is a benevolent program we started in 2009. SWAT stands for Servants With Available Talent. We operate with volunteers of the congregation forming teams. Each team has a captain and is assigned work projects for our widows, elderly, shut-ins, etc. These projects include yard work, minor house work, cleaning windows and jobs of this nature. This program is based on GAL 6:10. It has been a blessing for those who participate and to those who are recipients of the work.
Visitation Groups
Our visitation program began in 2002 with the forming of four teams of volunteers. Each team has a captain and co-captain and meet on a particular Sun. evening each month. For example, team #1 meets on the 1st Sun. evening, team #2 meets on the 2nd Sun., etc. The teams are encouraged to meet in one of the team member's home each month. Each family chooses a card that represents a widow, a shut-in, a hospital visit, a good prospect, those needing encouragement, etc. They make their visit in the allotted week. The teams meet each month for a six month period. After which new teams are formed. This program allows members the opportunity to be hospitable, gives us an opportunity to get to know each other even more, and is a blessing to those receive the visit. Our visitation program is based on James 1:27.
Lads to Leaders Leaderettes
We have been involved in this great program since 1988. It is a program that aids us in training and developing our youth to become leaders in the church, community and even country. Last year we were a part of 17,696 participants in five different conventions across our nation. Some of the events are; Parade of Winners (reading the O.T. or N.T.), Centurion of Scriptures (memorizing scriptures), Good Samaritan (doing good things for others), Art ( sketching, painting, etc.), speech, song leading, debate, puppets, Bible reading, etc. Each year we have a Biblical theme and every event centers around that theme. Those who can participate include kindergarten through adults! The Lads program has been a blessing to this congregation as well as all other churches who have been involved.
Sonshiners
This is a program for our senior citizens which began in 2002. During the fall and spring seasons we meet every Tue. for devotionals, pot-luck meals, devo. in nursing homes, devo. with shut-ins, out to eat, and trips to various places. The highlight each year is the Sonshiners' Retreat in Gatlinburg every falL We mail cards to the sick and bereaved of the congregation and sponsor a child each year from the children's home in Lauderdale Co. We have lots of fun and great fellowship and we make every effort to find worthy projects to be involved in. We belong to the Son of God and we endeavor to let our light shine, thus the "Sonshiners"!
Sharing Sisters
This is a new program we started to replace the former "Secret Sisters" program. The purpose of "Sharing Sisters" is to include ALL women at North Highlands and to "SHARE" time together. The group meets each month and enjoys a meal together, either a covered dish or going out to a restaurant. We have a devotional thought and enjoy being together with the focus on Christian fellowship. On special occasions the ladies are asked to bring a $5 to $10 gift for a gift exchange. All ladies are invited to participate whenever possible.
Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels program is something we as a congregation participate in, delivering food to the needy every six weeks. This gives us an opportunity to serve people of our community.
Ambassadors
Our Ambassador group is made up of young men and young ladies, who participate in the Lads to Leaders program. We go to churches that are interested in the program and conduct the Sunday evening service. The young men conduct the services to those in the auditorium and the young ladies to girls and women only in a different setting. It is a thrill to share the Lads program with other churches and to help them get started.
